Brave New World

The anti aircraft guns of London

Halfway through World war two for some reason known only to them my parents left the safety of the countryside and moved to the centre of London about a mile or so from these guns(3.7s) stationed in Hyde Park. There were many more than the two seen in this photo plus a battery of rocket launchers. This was after the blitz but German bombers still visited at night then all hell would be let loose, the noise was frightening and as children we were got up and had to sleep down in the basement not that we did as for an hour or two the deafening roar of the guns was non stop making a solid barrage. But what goes up must come down and it was in the form of shrapnel that ended up in rooftops (most houses had many leaks from broken tiles by the end of the war)or in the streets.Any schoolboy worth his salt had a vast collection of shrapnel for swapping etc so the morning after, we would be out searching the streets for more, all fears forgotten for another day.
Ten years later as part of my national service in the army I was firing these very same world war two guns down in Wales.More like boys toys then and very enjoyable! I found that if you stood close behind the gun when it fired you could see the shell going up,but you got a bloody awful headache after a while for your pains.

The Ferrari racing team.

None so daft (sometimes) as the English

this reminds me.As an art student in the 40s a group of us would stand in the middle of Victoria Station and stare at the roof. within minutes everybody in the station would be looking up.Very tame compared to the goings on now in Liverpool street station.

no apologies for showing this again

What did I do wrong God?

Couple of days ago caught a cold from my grandsons collection.Nose running.Nose pouring.Much sneezing. Take to my bed early.Freezing cold under two duvets . Get fan heater pointing at bed.Even colder but also sweating. Migraine added.C.O.P.D. added.Sleep comes in half hour segments.Clock stands still.More Paracetamols. Background Radio 3,4,7,five live, world service, snatches of. Bed all over the place.Dawn. Migraine takes over.Concerned faces. An angel turns up with tissues and Lemsip. The day a blurr. night with more radio and fortified Lemsip(don't try this at home children)hearing less of the radio as some sleep coming back. Clock moving forward half hourly.Sleep. Dawn.Migraine gone.lungs working.nose back to sniffle.Cant see the bedroom floor for tissues.First blissful cup of tea followed by toast and marmalade, life is for living again.

My very first mouse mat

Charlies angels..The mat that fluffed up that funny ball mouse that was the latest thing in technology. I wonder if vintage mouse mats would be worth selling on Ebay? I find if I click on their noses they get bigger! Wonder why the blonde one appears to be wearing no clothes?Perhaps none of them are? Maybe I got it all wrong about Charlies Angels.

Welsh valley

Oil on board, cant remember when..I Love the green of Wales though oddly enough I find green one of the hardest colours to use,it can get so acid.
This painting in here by request as the sidebar ones are too small and don't enlarge. Soon,I will get ON my butt and make a separate gallery to link too.

Special K
