Have just typed my address into google images in an idle moment and this came up! I remember now some people doing a survey and telling me they could give an age by looking at the joinery work on the beams. Looks a bit rough in this photo(since smartened up) taken 20 or 30 years ago. Was originally a coaching inn and had fallen into disuse and I was able to buy it for £1.000 mid sixties ! and spent the next year doing it up. Bit of a tardis,looks quite small from the road but rambles into the distance once you're inside....has eight bedrooms Oh and a ghost,anyone want to stay?

did a lot of these when I was a teenager pre art school. They actually sold very well mainly to theatrical people and were exhibited in theatre foyers and later in the Rowley Galleries.
I stopped doing them when I entered Art school as they were rather lightweight and not considered serious painting.
I later felt a bit guilty about selling them when I later discovered coloured inks fade very fast!

The scooter days

During the early sixties we had the weekend use of this cottage in Dorset,quite a few hours drive from London by scooter, an adventure in those days as main roads were few and far between and it was mile after mile of winding lanes. Seems a different world now with motorways and traffic jams.
England is still the same size but seemed so much larger then,every town looked different but in the fifties and sixties the rot was just starting as the councils were gutting out the old buildings and building the new ghastly town shopping centres all looking exactly the same.
This sort of cottage was lived in by the local villagers.Well out of their reach now.

Just think how nice it would be if in motorway jams one could get out and sit in the sunshine and maybe partake in some light refreshments(non alcoholic),or if the children get noisy during long journeys you could let them play outside.Why were these useful accessories dropped?

Chorus girls

As a young man I once painted stage scenery for a living.It was a happy period in my life,the perks of the job was the pantomime season when backstage would be full of beautiful and lively chorus girls in tights and skimpy costumes hence I lived in a trance and was always in love,only too happy to pop across the road to buy their sandwiches or do up the zippers they couldnt reach.
There was a great atmosphere working backstage mainly due to the stage crew and the chorus girls. I thought most of the principle actors and actresses apart from the older character ones, a load of vain self centered twits but the atmosphere in a theatre was never to be forgotten especially due to those brilliant pretty chorus girls.
